The MTC is a statutory times table check for year 4 pupils.
It asks 25 questions from a mixture of times tables up to 12 x 12 and the children have 6 seconds to answer each question.
Times Table Rockstars!
Soundcheck
There are lots of different methods for practising times tables on the internet but we focus mainly on TT Rockstars (alongside the official practice page). Soundcheck is useful as it is set out similarly to the official government MTC – the timings and layout.
Here, you will find the step-by-step guide that was sent to parents on 6th May 2022.
It explains how the Soundcheck works and how to check your child’s progress on this specific game.
Heatmap
When your child logs in to TT Rockstars, they can check their own stats.
We find the heatmap very useful as it colour-coordinates the times tables by how quickly they can answer them correctly. The greener a times table is, the more accurately it is answered.
See here for an example of this…
As you can see, Class 13 need practise on their 6s, 7s and 8s (particularly 8 x 6), while they are confident with the 10 and 11 times tables!
Soundcheck average…
As class teachers, we can access more stats and we can view each child’s average score on soundcheck games.
This means that if a child has never played, their automatic average will be 0!
