Class 13

Welcome to Class 13!

We are kind, creative, happy year 4 children, who love to learn!

We are a hard-working class of 23 children and we support each other in our learning.

Our teacher is Mrs Payne, who loves teaching year 4 and her favourite subjects are PE and maths! To support our class we have the wonderful Mrs Childs, Mrs Brooke and Mrs Rollinson. Other members of staff also love to come and work in class 13 from time to time.

We love hearing from the parents and carers of our children in Class 13 and we regularly update our class blog and Twitter to keep you informed of the creative and exciting things we have been learning about.

Mrs Payne is always available in a morning or after school if you ever need a quick chat. She is always happy to help.

We also have the Year 4 email if you wanted to email about any queries that you would like to pass on.

P.E.

Please try to have your PE kit in school every day. We expect children to bring their PE kits in a drawstring bag and remember to take them home regularly to be washed. Please make sure children have an outdoor PE kit, including joggers, hoodie and trainers as we will have at least one PE session outdoors each week. Currently, our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday to be handed in on the following Friday. Homework will be maths based and will alternate between a paper-based activity and TTRS in preparation for the MTC later this year.  It is important that your child completes homework as homework is a way to reinforce learning that has been done in class. In addition to this, children will come home with weekly spellings that will be sent home on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. Practising these spellings are part of the weekly homework expectations.

Reading

Daily diaries need to be in school everyday as they include lots of information to support your child with their learning and it also gives us chance to update their reading in school.

Diaries will be checked every Friday and children should have three or more reads in them. Children that read 3 or more times a week will be put into a reading raffle each week to have the chance of winning a prize from Mrs Payne’s prize box.

What we’re learning

Autumn Term

Let’s go wild!

We started this term looking at ‘The lost words” poetry book all about nature and the wild.

We did lots of creative learning, and produced some amazing pieces of art including: making bee houses,  creating water colour pictures of UK wildlife and we even had a special visit from some rescue owls!

The children also wrote some amazing non-chronological reports on their chosen UK wildlife animal.

Through the ages

his term we are doing an exciting topic named ‘Through the ages’.

Throughout this topic, we will focus on learning about the pre-history from the Stone Age to Bronze Age and Iron Age! We will begin our topic with a Stone Age dress up day, where we will take part in a carousel of activities including making cave paintings, creating stone age inspired jewellery from salt dough and taking part in a workshop led by a neanderthal! We will be reading the book ‘The Wild Way Home’ by Sophie Kirtley to inspire our writing.

TTRockstars Day

To kick-start our times table battle we all dressed up as rock stars and had a day full of rocking times tables.

All of Class 13 put so much effort into their outifts and looked like true rockstars!

Well done to everyone, and keep practising those times tables.

Spring Term

Carnival de brasil

We kick started the Spring term with “Brazil Day” where children took part in some samba dancing, tried fruit smoothies and created carnival headbands like the ones that would be worn in Rio de Janeiro.

Throughout the rest of the term, we have developed our studied the Geographical location of Brazil, painted our own Brazilian art work based on the artist Romero Britto, written poems and persuasive leaflets all about Brazil and even made some musical instruments!

We have also enjoyed reading books including “The Explorer” to assist our learning and expand out imaginations.
