Creative Arts

At Thorpe Hesley Primary School, creativity is at the heart of everything we do.

The governors, staff, children and parents share a vision of the importance of the arts in educating young people. Our staff are committed to developing their skills in all arts areas and they use their expertise to teach lessons through music, dance, drama and art that are exciting, meaningful and challenging for all pupils.

Our environment stimulates creativity and innovation to enable our children to unleash their imagination. It is rich and diverse and we take great pleasure in displaying our children’s work.

A creative curriculum is the way we deliver our learning. It is clear the benefits that a creative curriculum can have to children’s learning, with varied literature showing that it creates problem solvers, creative thinkers and more resilient learners.

We realise the importance of performing and the confidence it instils in children so all children participate in major productions each year including our very popular ‘multicultural assemblies’.

We believe that by developing skills in creative and performing arts we develop a child’s individuality and self-confidence.

Artsmark

In September 2017 Thorpe Hesley Primary School decided to enroll on the Artsmark programme. With creativity at its heart we felt that the programme would fit in nicely with the school’s aims and ethos. For a couple of years we worked on our bespoke ‘Artsmark journey’ with the aim of achieving our goals by the end of academic year 2019. We submitted our work and were delighted to hear that we had been awarded Artsmark Gold!

Artsmark is the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings, accredited by Arts Council England. We support settings to develop and celebrate their commitment to arts and cultural education.

Our Artsmark journey has helped us to continually reflect and challenge ourselves to deliver the best arts provision for our children and young people.

We will continue to strive for the highest standards so that each child in our school brings creativity to the heart of their learning ensuring that everyone achieves their full potential.
