There is a compulsory dress code at school. It is seen by all as a mark of being part of this community, with all the things that means – our ethos, our rules, our sharing, our looking out for each other, our constant striving to do our best and present ourselves well. Please do not buy expensive clothes for school wear.
Children should wear:
• Red sweatshirt, pullover, cardigan or fleece.
This can be one bearing our Primary School logo – these can be bought from Pinders Schoolwear or Johnny D Schoolwear in Rotherham or are available to order from their websites https://pindersschoolwear.com/, https://johnnyd.co.uk/.
If you choose not to have a logo item for your child, please note that the sweatshirt, pullover, cardigan or fleece must be plain red, carrying no other logo whatsoever.
We do not allow pupils to wear hoodies in school. Sweatshirts, cardigans or jumpers only please.
• White or red polo style shirts or blouses, with a collar.
• Black or grey tailored trousers, pinafores or skirts.
• Shoes must be plain black. No white or coloured soles please.
In warm weather, children may also wear:
• Plain black or grey shorts of an appropriate length.
• The top should be white or red polo style shirts or blouses, with a collar, as it is for the rest of the year.
• ‘School uniform’ cotton dresses in red and white.
Please also ensure that your child has a hat to wear outside in sunny weather.
Please do not allow your child to wear jewellery or inappropriate fashion items, such as unreasonably large headbands or hair decorations, to school. We accept one watch / ‘fitbit’, preferably inexpensive, from Y2 onwards. These must not be smart watches that connect to the internet.
We do not allow inappropriately coloured / dyed hair or wearing nail varnish in school, unless it is for a ‘dress up’ day.
Children can also wear a maximum of one small stud earring only in each ear. No other jewellery is accepted. If your child wears earrings, they are the sole responsibility of your child. They must be removed for PE. If your child is unable to remove them alone, it would be far better if the earrings remained at home. If it is not yet possible to remove earrings, they must be covered completely with tape brought from home. This is also the responsibility of your child – staff cannot help children put on or remove tape from ears. No other piercings are allowed at all.
PE
PE kits are not required in school for Nursery children. For PE from Reception upwards we expect children to wear black shorts and white T-shirt. For Year 1 to Year 6 (but not Reception), for outdoor games, sports trainers (any colour) and black jogging bottoms and track suit top or similar is required.Football shirts or kits are not acceptable. We take pupils out whenever possible; these must be available at all times. Children are not allowed to wear their school shoes for PE and must bring an alternative pair, even if the shoes are a ‘trainer’ style. All pupils with long hair are expected to fasten it back for health and safety purposes. Hair bobbles should be provided from home. Children are expected to bring to school their PE kit on Monday and leave it until Friday. PE sessions can take place on any day of the week.
Pre-Loved Uniform
As a school, we have good quality second hand uniform available for any parent who requires it. This is available in the Year 3 and 4 cloak room straight after school every day for parents to peruse and help themselves to. In addition, we try to have these items available during school events throughout the year, for example, at coffee mornings, Summer Festival etc. Alternatively, you can contact either school office (THPOffice@nclt.ac.uk or 0114 2570153) and we will happily sort some pre-loved uniform for you in a discrete manner.
Additional Information:
Children should bring to school a clearly named water bottle each day. These should be plastic and
of an appropriate size – they can be refilled throughout the day.
Children should also bring a book bag to school every day. This should be a red envelope book bag which can be plain or with the school logo and can be purchased from Pinders or Johnny D Schoolwear.
We also ask that all children from Reception to Year 6 have a pair of inexpensive wellies in school at all times as we are passionate about learning outdoors and like to visit our nature garden and woodland on a regular basis which can get very muddy.
Please ensure that all clothing and other items are clearly labelled with your child’s name so that they can be returned to you should they get misplaced.
Thank you for your support.
